Florida Coast Guard station is hub of Bahamas woman-overboard probe

Authorities were seen searching the Soulmate sailboat at the Fort Pierce Coast Guard Station May 12 in an investigation into the disappearance of a woman whose husband said she fell overboard and vanished in April.

TCPalm saw investigators wearing black shirts with yellow lettering, tan pants and blue gloves on the vessel in the Fort Pierce Inlet, but authorities would not comment.

"We can't comment on pending investigations," Coast Guard Lt. Nicolina Converso told TCPalm. "We may be able to release more information in the future."

Brian Hooker, Lynette’s Hooker's husband, reported April 4 that she fell off their 8-foot dinghy in the Bahamas during a night trip from Hope Town to Elbow Bay, which are off Great Abaco Island,USA TODAY reportedMay 6.

Hooker told the Royal Bahamas police that she had been carrying the boat keys, causing the engine to shut off when she fell. Then "strong currents subsequently carried her away," and he lost sight of her, police said. Brian, meanwhile, paddled a dinghy to shore, arriving about 4 a.m. April 5, according to USA TODAY.

Three days later, the Royal Bahamas Police Department arrested and questioned Hooker, then released him April 13 on the recommendation of local prosecutors. He remains a suspect, USA TODAY reported.

Hooker’s attorney denied he had anything to do with his wife's disappearance, according to a statement sent to USA TODAY last month.

"Mr. Hooker categorically and unequivocally denies any wrongdoing," attorney Terrel Butler said. "He has been cooperating with the relevant authorities as part of an ongoing investigation."
